On Friday last 23th Jan 09 the Friends of South Tipperary General Hospital made presentations to the Physio Department and Coronary Care Unit of the hospital. The Physiotherapy Unit was presented with a 42” television, a Nintendo Wii and a Wii Fit, while the Coronary Unit received a 32” television. The Friends have been providing patient comforts to the hospital over a long number of years. In accepting the equipment on behalf of the Physiotherapy Department, Barbara Long, Physiotherapy Manager said “We here at the South Tipperary Physiotherapy Department of South Tipperary General Hospital are extremely grateful to the Friends of South TIpperary General Hospital, and most of all to those whose contributions have made this equipment available for use in the rehabilitation of patients. The Wii is currently being used with great success in the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin. Recovering from injury or illness can be a very challenging time physically and emotionally. The use of the Nintendo Wii system has been proven to be motivational and will help to make rehabilitation a more enjoyable process and improve patient outcomes”. The Friends of South TIpperary General Hospital wish to thank the businesses and the people of South Tipperary who have financially supported the Friends and patients at the hospital. Without that generosity and support, the Friends wouldn’t be able to support the hospital, and in particular provide patient comforts to the hospital. Thanks are also due to all those involved with the Friends and in particular John Savage Friends chairman, Anne Kavanagh, Friends treasurer, Walter Kearney Friends secretary, Freddie Kavanagh, Friends vice-chairman, and Cllr. Seamus Healy, Friends committee. for all their good work on behalf of patients at the hospital.

The Friends of South Tipperary General Hospital Ltd donated monies to facilitate the purchase of Ana tome Chairs for the  Medical and Surgical wards in 2010

The money allowed the Friends of STGH to purchase
11 Ana tome Chairs (see picture above)
11 Over chair Tables
6 Neck Support Cushions
6 Gel Seat Cushions
The design of this chair meets the needs of the patients in STGH as it has retractable head and arm rests. Staff in South Tipperary find that this is a necessary aid to patient care. The chair is not only used to provide the correct position for patients following illnesses such as Stokes etc but this chair can also be used to transfer patients from the wards to the physiotherapy department to enable their rehabilitation. The patient is secure in the chair on transfer allowing the patient to relax in a safe environment. The chair is easy to move around the hospital as it has good handling qualities and is of lightweight construction.

On behalf of the patients and staff who have benefited from these chairs say “ Thank You
